Nesting

Turtle sculpture with colorful hexagonal sections depicting various animals.

Hello, I'm Calusa

I am a model of a Loggerhead turtle that is named in honor of people who lived here long ago that are now extinct. I am sponsored by Sun Coast Property Watch and was painted by Carol Leonard with help from Coastal Wildlife Club volunteers Barb Tapp, Barb Troup and Shelley Kayne.

I represent the most commonly found species of sea turtle on our beaches.

Each section of the shell carapace is painted to represent species found locally that have declined in population numbers from historic levels and are in danger of becoming extinct without our help.

With our help, the turtles will return to our beaches.
